3 - The Waste Warriors
Segregation and collection of waste from local households

THE NEED

THE NEED

In our community there is squalor everywhere. There is lack of clear and designated spots for collection of garbage. There is no attempt whatsoever at segregation. There is no regular collection of the garbage by the authorities. All these factors lead to huge piles of garbage, with rotten mixture and stink emanating from it , to be found everywhere. Our project aims at filling the gaps in the system, where we come in and help segregate the recyclable waste from the non-recyclable and prevent a huge amount of waste from ending up at the dumps and rendered unusable. We incentivize this change in behavioral patterns by generating revenue from selling the aggregated waste to bigger recyclers. ACTION

PLAN OF ACTION

Our team size currently is eight. We are currently focusing on regularising the segregation process , which entails mostly house-visits and creating invested households as participants. Our business model runs in regular cycles , so the timeline we have set for ourselves concerns primarily the reach that our project will have in terms of the households working with us and that we continue to maintain an upward trend as far as quantum of collected and recycled waste is concerned.
Things that will require investment are primarily: (i) Space for collection and storage. (ii) Providing households with a collection bin .
Apart from this the only other cost involved will be transportation.

EXPECTED IMPACT

EXPECTED IMPACT

The aim is to quadruple the reach of the project from 24 households to 100 in a period of one year. We aim to create a regular and stable channel that will be in a state to absorb more and more participants. And in the end, become able to emerge as a proof-point as alternatives that are led by citizens for waste management and that is sustainable.
