About The Grant

The National Geographic Society and Microsoft’s AI for Earth program are partnering to support novel projects that create and deploy AI tools to improve the way we monitor, model, and ultimately manage Earth’s natural systems for a more sustainable future.

Timeline

The timeline would be decided in the basis of the Project determined by the National Geographic Society.

Focus Area

AI can help in areas such as:

Extreme weather and climate modeling

Sustainable land-use change

Ecosystem services (including carbon sequestration and afforestation/reforestation)

Resilience to extreme-event impacts (droughts, floods, disasters, etc.)

Grant/Award Information

Proposals may request $5,000 to $100,000 (INR 5L- 50L approximately). The budgets of successful proposals will include reasonable, well-justified costs directly required to complete the project.

In addition to financial support, successful proposals will receive free access to AI for Earth APIs, applications, tools, and tutorials, and support for their computational work on Microsoft Azure.

Eligibility Criteria

All applications must be submitted through National Geographic Society's online application system here.

Project start dates should be a minimum of six months after the submission deadline to ensure any awarded funds are received in time.
